I like All Against One.
I like how much the different weapons change the game.
I like that you don’t have health, only a score.
I like how it has the old school “clothes are slowly removed” method of showing the enemy’s health.
I like pants.
I like tiny pixel willies.
I like what little story there is.
I like that even though this could be easily contextualised on the ground, it’s still in the sky because that’s how shmups work, dagnabbit!
I like Hefty Seamstress.
I like that it’s fundamentally about having fun with words.
I like that after 3 clicks you are miles away from any other combination of 3 clicks.
I like “yes extended, added h”
I like Disasteradio.
I like the dumbass lo-fi effects.
I like pitch-shifted dog barks as an instrument.
I like how it sounds like the future from the 80s.
I like the ridiculous album art.
I like that it’s really really happy.
I like Game Title.
I like how the cats work.
I like how the levels are designed around the teleportation mechanic.
I like how it feels like Zelda by someone who hasn’t played Zelda (That is what it is).
I like the way the explosions look.
I like Promises.
I like how the mechanics reveal themselves to you.
I like the use of music.
I like how much I had to think about it to solve the puzzle.
I like Ramona Falls.
I like the heartfelt singing.
I like the subtle poetry of the lyrics.
I like that there’s so much piano.
I like that the I Say Fever video is maybe the best music video of all time.
I like The Submarines.
I like the romance of the story of how the first album came together.
I like that they sing about horrible breakup sadness in such a cheery way.
I like the variety of instruments that get used.
I like how even though the second album doesn’t have a prevailing heart-wrenching theme, it is still a great sounding album with the right amount of happy-sadness.
I like how both of them sing and neither of them are bad at singing. That could have been awkward.
Sorry about the terrible video, it was this or a clip from Nip/Tuck
I like Throwing Shade.
I like how they are sticking with the ‘sues joke even though it’s really stupid.
I like how they make extended ridiculous sex jokes specifically to gross eachother out.
I like how they talk about feminist/gay rights things and are suitably outraged but also hilarious about it.
I like Verge.
I like the way it looks really good.
I like how the death mechanic is introduced and expanded on.
I like how when you bounce on enemies a combo meter adds up for no reason.
I like Be Your Own Pet.
I like how they are a female fronted band with some fucking badassery.
I like how they don’t sound like a band that a marketing department would imagine up.
I like the way the lyrics all make sense but they’re still totally ridiculous.
I like “For real / Party for real this time / Party for real” in the intro of Blow Yr Mind and I wish every person in the world knew Be Your Own Pet so I could use it as a reference more often.
I like how fucking catchy it all is.
I HATE that they’ve split up.
I LOVE that I saw them at Reading 2008 on their last tour.
I am ambivalent about the fact that Jemina Pearl’s solo efforts are great but nowhere near as good as Be Your Own Pet proper.
